The new issue of Game Informer says that while the PS5 Spider-Man game isn’t a sequel it does come with an updated version of the first game.

According to the information Sony has announced so far, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is the highest profile launch title for the PlayStation 5 – which makes sense given the original is the best-selling exclusive on the PlayStation 4.

The problem is that, while it wasn’t obvious from the initial reveal, Miles Morales is not Spider-Man 2 or any kind of full-length game, but instead a spin-off similar in scope and size to Uncharted: The Lost Legacy.

That’s obviously a bit disappointing but to sweeten the deal the game will come with a remastered version of the original, at least according to Game Informer magazine.

The latest issue of the mag features a description of the game which clearly states that, ‘it comes bundled with a remastered version of Insomniac’s Spider-Man that takes full advantage of the PS5 hardware’.

That makes sense, not only in terms of making up for Miles Morales’ short length but given that Sony has already been using the original game to demonstrate the new abilities of the PlayStation 5 – especially the loading speed of the SSD.

There’s also the fact that, because it’s not a full game, Miles Morales will almost certainly be reusing an upgraded version of the original open world incarnation of New York City – so half the work is already done.

The only problem with the news is that it’s not something that Sony has ever mentioned before and it’s not clear whether Game Informer has a scoop (which they often do) or if they’ve made some kind of mistake.

It would certainly be understandable if they had given one of Sony’s own execs got confused over what exactly the game is, so before you start celebrating we’d wait for some official word from Sony or developer Insomniac.
