Longtime TV personality Regis Philbin has died. Today news broke that Philbin passed away on Friday (July 24) at the age of 88.

“We are deeply saddened to share that our beloved Regis Philbin passed away last night of natural causes, one month shy of his 89th birthday,” reads a statement from his family to PEOPLE.

“His family and friends are forever grateful for the time we got to spend with him — for his warmth, his legendary sense of humour, and his singular ability to make every day into something worth talking about. We thank his fans and admirers for their incredible support over his 60-year career and ask for privacy as we mourn his loss.”

Philbin was best known as being the co-host of Live! with Regis and Kathie Lee, which started in 1988 and ran for 15 years alongside Kathie Lee Gifford. In 2001, it was rebranded as Live! with Regis and Kelly, with Philbin co-starring in the show alongside Kelly Ripa.

Beyond that, Philbin was known for hosting Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? from 1999 to 2002. He also served as a host on America’s Got Talent, among various other TV roles over the years.
