Liverpool’s fears over Andy Robertson and Jordan Henderson have been allayed, with the duo’s injuries not expected to be significant enough to rule them out of Sunday’s clash with Leicester.

Left-back Robertson missed Scotland’s Uefa Nations League clash with Slovakia on Sunday having felt tightness in his hamstring in Thursday’s dramatic penalty shootout win over Serbia that booked their spot at next summer’s European Championship.

Henderson, meanwhile, was subbed off at half-time of England’s 2-0 defeat to Belgium yesterday and replaced by Harry Winks, with the change an enforced one rather than tactical.

But both players’ issues are only minor and are unlikely to impact their involvement when the Premier League resumes, with Robertson potentially even playing for Scotland against Israel on Wednesday night.

‘Andy was probably a little bit worse than the rest, which is why I left him out,’ said Scotland boss Steve Clarke after his side’s 1-0 loss to Slovakia.

‘It would have been too big a risk.

‘But he’s coming to Israel so we’ll assess him over there and hopefully get him on the pitch.

‘That would be good as we’d like our captain on the pitch.’

Southgate, similarly, does not anticipate Henderson being sidelined for a long period of time, saying: ‘Jordan had a bit of tightness at half-time and felt he couldn’t carry on.

‘We’ll have to assess him when we get back.’

The news will be a welcome boost for Liverpool, who faced the prospect of taking on Leicester on Sunday without any of their first-choice back four after Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk sustained major injuries, while Trent Alexander-Arnold is out for four weeks with a calf injury.
