I’m a Celebrity’s Vernon Kay slammed by viewers for ‘annoying’ habit
I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! star Vernon Kay has been criticised by viewers for an annoying habit he’s exhibited.
The presenter has had a lot of viewers swooning over him since the series started, but many have picked up on his regular name-dropping.
In Wednesday’s show, Vernon revealed to Giovanna that his favourite celebrity was Tom Hanks.
He had met the Hollywood film star when he was a fledgling presenter on T4 and Tom was promoting his film The Polar Express.
“He was amazing, he was just the nicest fella,” said Vernon.
“I interviewed him for The Polar Express but he was so nice and at the end I said I know this is really unprofessional, is there any chance you can sign this DVD cover of Forrest Gump for me.
“And he’s like no problem, so he signed it to Vernon, good luck with the new gig, Tom Hanks.”
Vernon then went on to explain that he met the star again on a press junket on Eurostar for The Da Vinci Code.
“I’ll never forget it, I I can see it now, Tom Hanks saw me and he just turned to Ron Howard (the film’s director) and he went ‘oh this is Vern, he’s alright he is’.
I’m like, ‘He remembered my name!’ and he just turned around and said Vern, oh he’s a good guy!”
One viewer tweeted: “Dang Vernon dropping names like no tomorrow. Wonder who he’ll drop next after Hanks, DiCaprio? DeNiro?”
Another joked: “Me waiting to see how long it takes Vernon to name drop a celebrity he seen in his local Argos”.
A third moaned: “How many more celebs is Vernon going to make drop in the next thr the weeks? Bit bored of that already”.
It’s not the first time Vernon has name dropped, as he and Shane Richie were both accused of it previously.
Shane Richie told his campmates about the time he and Tom Cruise went go-karting together until 5am.
Shane bragged: “When I was in the West End doing Boogie Nights in 1999, Nicole Kidman and Tom were filming Eyes Wide Shut.
“And there was a big indoor go-karting track near the BBC.
“I got a phone call from Charlie who used to run it and he said come along on your own and I was going through a real public divorce at the time.”
Vernon then told the campmates about the time he met Brad Pitt in Marks and Spencer.
He went on: “And that very afternoon I went to my favourite DIY shop to pick up a few bits.
“As I’m crossing the road, Kate and WIlliam stopped in their Range as I’m crossing the road, what a day.”
“Angelina used to go to our Sainsburys,” he added.
