Key Xbox Series X launch title pushed due to “multiple factors” including COVID-19

Halo Infinite, previously intended to be a key exclusive console launch title for the Xbox Series X this holiday, has been delayed into 2021.

In a Twitter announcement today, developer 343 Industries attributed the delay to “multiple factors” including “the ongoing COVID-related impacts affecting us all this year.”

Studio head Chris Lee wrote in the announcement that the delay was necessary “to ensure the team has adequate time to deliver a Halo game experience that meets our vision.”

In a post that dropped at the same time on Xbox Wire, Microsoft acknowledged the delay while placing a focus instead on the console’s backward compatibility at launch, as well as the over 100 titles that are being optimized for the Series X.

Additionally, the post threw a spotlight on Xbox Game Pass, which Microsoft is beefing up in September with the addition of cloud gaming services.

Microsoft recently showed off the first look at gameplay for Halo Infinite at a recent Xbox Games Showcase.
