FIFA 21 sees sales drop 42% on last year – Games charts 10 October

To be fair, the ugly box art is pretty off-putting (pic: EA)

EA’s latest football sim has taken its preordained place at the top of the UK sales chart but FIFA 21 seems to be off to a slow start.

Physical sales of FIFA 21 are 42% lower than FIFA 20. Even given the constant rise in digital sales, which are not counted in these charts, that still seems an exceptionally large drop, perhaps as a result of people holding onto their money ahead of the next gen console launches.

62% of FIFA 21 sales were for the PlayStation 4 version, with the Xbox One version accounting for only 36% and the Nintendo Switch just 2%.

No other major game was foolhardy enough to launch aside FIFA 21 but there was still some interesting movement in the charts, with Star Wars: Squadrons maintaining it’s spot at number two but Crash Bandicoot 4 falling from number one to number three – further evidence that the new game has not performed as well as the PlayStation 1 remakes.
