Coronavirus vaccine: 5 countries which are leading the race
The United States of America, with its Operation WarpSpeed, is responsible for work on more than 3 novel vaccine candidates. Leading the race is Moderna Therapeutics Inc, with its novel mRNA technology vaccine. Pharma giant Pfizer is also working on creating a vaccine with the German group, BioNTech. Both of these vaccines are in phase III of development and seeing advanced progress.
Trials for Novavax, another candidate are also underway, with testing expected to happen in India as well soon.
Johnson and Johnson, a late entrant in the race also picked up the pace with its exciting vaccine development. However, the program was halted after a volunteer developed a mysterious illness.
Another preventive dose, Eli Lilly’s antibody cocktail shot, ‘Regeneron’ which was most famously used to treat US President Donald Trump is also in the middle of combined phase II/III trials.
