We now get to work on our final details before the tournament opener on Thursday.”

Ah … yes, the games themselves loom large, with The Island Games schedule just released Monday.

The first stage of the tourney consists of one game against each of their CPL rivals, beginning with the kickoff against Forge and following with games every Sunday and Thursday through Aug. 30 vs. Valour, Edmonton, the HFX Wanderers FC, Atletico Ottawa and Pacific.

Cavalry caps off the opening stage with an afternoon affair against York9 FC on Saturday, Sept. 5.

The top four teams then move on to the second stage in another round-robin format.

From the final four, the two best square off in a one-game, victor-take-all finale to determine the champion of the CPL’s second season and winner of the coveted North Star Shield.

Since the Cavs intend to be there until the end, they’re hoping to find comfort sooner rather than later under strange circumstances.

“Out of all this, we’ve got to find comfort in the uncomfortable,” said Wheeldon Jr. “We’re just going to deal with being uncomfortable and find a way to be comfortable in it.”

It is, after all, their home away from home.

“We’ll be living in a hotel for a long time, which is hopefully for the entirety of the tournament,” added Cavalry goalkeeper Marco Carducci. “You’re spending a long time away from home, so we’re going to need that camaraderie and brotherhood, which I think is something we have in the team.

“We have a fantastic group and very tight-knit. I have no doubts that we’ll be able to enjoy our time.”
