Thunder skipper Callum Ferguson was out for a third ball duck shortly after when he was caught by Andrew Tye off the bowling of Jason Behrendorff to put the breaks on the run chase.
The capitulation continued when opener Alex Hales was caught by Cameron Bancroft for five off 10 balls to give Behrendorff his second.
However things got worse when Alex Ross was run out for a duck without facing a ball in farcical scenes.
Scorchers keeper Josh Inglis juggled the throw from Behrendorff who fielded the ball off his own bowling and batted the ball onto the stumps with Ross guilty of a horror mix-up.
Ben Cutting blasted 31 with three fours and a six before he was caught in the deep by Liam Livingstone off the bowling of Andrew Tye.
Nathan McAndrew followed soon after for 4 caught again by Livingstone off the bowling of Jhye Richardson.
Chris Green blasted one four before being caught in the deep for 7 to have the Scorchers in control with the Thunder needing 31 from 14 balls.
Sam Billings blasted a match high 83 off 48 balls before he was bowled by Tye in the second last over all but ending the Thunder’s hopes of pulling off a miracle run chase.
Earlier the Perth Scorchers made 6-185 from their 20 overs after being sent in by the Sydney Thunder with Colin Munro blasting his third 50 in a row.
Liam Livingstone was first man out for the Scorchers for 3 after skying a ball from Brendan Doggett, which was caught by Thunder wicketkeeper Sam Billings.
Moments later fellow Englishmen Jason Roy was out in near identical fashion after skying a ball again to Billings to make it two wickets in Doggett’s first over.
Josh Inglis and Colin Munro led a Scorchers fightback with a 43-run partnership before Doggett struck again with his third of the night to bowl Inglis for 20.
Adam Milne was caught in the deep by Fawad Ahmed off Richardson to seal the Scorchers’ victory.
Mitch Marsh raced to 15 before he cut a ball straight down Chris Green’s throat to give Doggett his fourth of the night.
Scorchers skipper Ashton Turner blasted 23 runs off the 16th over from Chris Green including two fours and two sixes to race to 31 off 12 balls.
However Nathan McAndrew had him out next over after a ramp shot went wrong and was caught by Tanveer Sangha.
Munro anchored the Scorchers’ innings and brought up his 50 off 40 balls including three sixes and a four, before Ben Cutting had him caught behind by Billings.
Aaron Hardie 19 not out and Jhye Richardson 20 not out finished off the innings with some big hitting to secure a competitive total of 6-185.
