Bake Off viewers fight back tears as Linda dedicates cake to her late daughter
Bake Off hopeful Linda has solidified her fan favourite status as she dedicated a bake to her late daughter.
Her daughter Melissa sadly died at just 18-years-old.
“This cake really means a lot to me,” Linda explained, “It’s a tribute to my daughter.
“Melissa had special needs, she’s no longer with us. She passed away when she was 18, but this is just a celebration of her life really, and she was just a sweet little English rose.”
Co-host Matt Lucas told that Linda had crafted a chocolate rose to sit atop a three-tier sponge.
Fans soon flooded the Bake Off Twitter hashtag to pay tribute to Linda and her daughter.
One offered: “Linda <3 when she talked about her daughter I teared up. I’ve never loved a bake off contestant more #GBBO.”
Another tweeted: “There must be a lot of icing sugar in the air in my house….clearly something in my eye as I to listen to Linda talking about her daughter.”
“Oh Linda you’ve already made your daughter proud #GBBO,” a third remarked.
“Linda just made everyone in the UK instantly brim at the eyes,” a fourth penned, “Her daughter sounded truly wonderful.”
A fifth sympathised: “Thats so sad about Linda’s daughter what a lovely idea to make a celebration cake in her memory if it goes well she could be star baker this week #GBBO.”
Other fans joined the calls to name Linda Star Baker for the week.
