Australia vs India third Test: Steve Smith looking to extend Aussie lead on day four at SCG
THAT’S LUNCH! Australia 4-182 (Smith 58, Green 20) leads by 276
So that’s probably job done from Australia, despte the loss of two wickets. The going was slow, owing to some good, tight bowling and the knowledge that the Aussies didn’t really need to do anything remotely expansive with the bat.
Marnus Labuschagne reached another 50 but fell short of another ton, and Matt Wade’s time at the crease was fleeting. But around them both was Steve Smith, cautiously and comfortably adding to his and the team’s total. Cam Green joined him and after some early jitters, slipped into gear with a couple of delightful drives in support.
You would imagine Australia would look to push things somewhat after lunch – they are certainly in a perfect position to do so. The record winning run chase at the SCG is 288, so India are already almost in record-breaking territory. But in the two hours after lunch, Australia could make sure of things. See you soon for all that.
