assam: Election commission team assess the preparedness of Assam for the assembly polls

Guwahati: A team from Election Commission of India assessed the preparedness of Assam for the assembly polls.

Assam is likely to go to assembly polls in April. A team deputed by Election Commission of India comprising of Dharmendra Sharma, Director General Election Commission of India accompanied by Narendra Nath Butolia, Senior Principal Secretary, P. Srivastavsa Director Expenditure, Kamal Agarwal Director IT, Vijay Pandey Director Law and Vipin Katara Consultant, EVM visited Assam from January 11 to 13th January, 2021 to take stock of preparedness regarding the forthcoming General Elections to Assam Legislative Assembly both at the district and the state level.

The Director General, ECI and Nitin Khade Chief Electoral Officer, Assam conducted the review meeting on elections preparedness on 11/01/2021 and 12/1/2021 with Divisional Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners cum District Election officers, Range DIGs and Superintendents of Police of revenue districts.

All key issues covering electoral roll, EVM/VVPAT, first level checking, polling stations, manpower, transportation, security and Covid issues were discussed at length and feedback were taken from the districts in respect of all the important issues related to smooth conduct of ensuing elections.

The Director General, ECI also held meetings with DGP, Assam and later on the Director General, ECI also interacted with senior officers from department of Income Tax, Narcotics Control Bureau, CAPF and representatives of political parties.
