Arsenal legend Thierry Henry believes Celtic hitman Odsonne Edouard has all the qualities to become an elite striker. Before the Scottish Premiership was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, Edouard had been enjoying an excellent season with 27 goals and 19 assists.

And those stats have led to the French striker being linked with the likes of Arsenal, who could be in the market for a new striker if captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is sold this summer.

Edouard has a contract with Celtic until the summer of 2022 but the Scottish champions could be forced into selling him to raise funds following the financial impact of coronavirus.

Arsenal have a history of signing young French talent and turning them into great players with Henry and Patrick Vieira the most notable examples.

And former Scotland forward Ally McCoist has revealed Henry told him Edouard has all the attributes to be among the best.

“I spoke to Thierry Henry at the Liverpool vs Leicester City game and he really rates Edouard,” McCoist told the Daily Record.

“He was saying in France in particular [Edouard is admired] and he personally really, really thinks he’s got a chance of going right to the top.”

Meanwhile, the Arsenal players have been returning to the training ground at London Colney to resume training ahead of the possible restart of the Premier League next month.

Manager Mikel Arteta was the first person within the Premier League to test positive for COVID-19 but has since recovered and will be hoping to continue their improved form when the football gets back underway.

And speaking in an interview with Arsenal.com, defender Shkodran Mustafi hailed the Spaniard’s impact at the club since his appointment in December.

“Each one of us has benefitted from this arrival,” Mustafi said.

“He has brought a very clear identity and a very clear idea of how he wants to play football, but at the same time, he gives you space to make your own decisions because you are on the pitch and you know exactly what the coach wants from you.

“I think as well he has been listening into the changing room and listening to the players to find out why things were not working out before.

“Sometimes we don’t realise how difficult it is to be a coach because you have so many people that you have to make follow your idea.

“Sometimes players are happy, sometimes players that don’t play are not so happy, so it is not easy to have all on board and all agreeing with your ideas and philosophy.

“But he has managed to do that and in this short period it has been something very difficult to do, but he has done it. That is why we created a bit of momentum and we are heading in the right direction.

“I have benefitted from his arrival and his coaching. When you are 28 years old, you think you have heard everything and then a coach comes in and you still learn and hear things that you have never heard before.

“He has been incredible since his arrival. He has shown his aura and his personality just shows that he is so convinced of the way he thinks football should be and how he wants his team to play, and you just agree with it and soak in all the information.”
